ERE Genus, Omnia & Explorator expand saddle, affordable wheelset range & more!

Tips & Reviews

Ere Research first popped into our view with premium tubeless road tires, then a unique adjustable performance saddle concept. Now those saddles are almost set for consumer availability, and they are being backed up by a huge affordable Genus, Omnia & Explorator road and gravel wheelset range in both carbon & alloy…Advertisements

Ere’s founder has more than two decades of cycling product development experience, especially in the ergonomic saddle department, so that seems that seems a fitting place to start.

Ongoing ergonomic study together with Stanford Medicine, the University’s oldest department, led to their unisex saddle designs. Two shapes will be offered this flat Genus model for cyclists with more flexible hips, and the more concave Omnia for riders that rotate hips more forward. Both saddle shapes will be available in standard black tops, as well as in more colorful limited edition seasonal versions.

They all feature Ere’s unique, patented Comfort Trigger, a 3-position switch under the nose of the saddle that offers three levels of saddle top stiffness/flexibility to suit changing road or trail conditions, or more support for extended climbing. Ere’s pressure mapping showed significant relief from the Comfort Trigger as a rider moves around on the saddle, without the troublesome perineal pressure often resulting from thicker foam padding.

Both saddles have a short 240mm length, will come in 133/145/157mm widths and in 140€ alloy rails with carbon composite tops, 200€ carbon rails with carbon composite tops, and 300€ carbon rails and full carbon topped versions.

Ere says their move into the admittedly crowded wheel market is about creating that improved wheel-to-tire combination, and doing it at a high-performance level without exorbitant prices. Their wheels fall into the same three categories as their matching road tires (which also get a performance upgrade for 2020 with greater high tpi options): Genus for road racing, Omnia for all-rounder performance, and Explorator for more heavy use on road & gravel.

The top rad race Genus family is the only one that really gets broken down even further now. Two AE or aerodynamically optimized carbon wheels will be available. The Genus AE00 is a 17mm wide tubular disc, disc brake wheel for TT racing (above, back), available only as a rear for $2000/1700€ at 1300g.

All of the other Genus carbon wheels are also disc brake only & tubeless-ready, with 19mm internal widths, 12mm thru-axles and the ability to set up front wheels with 15mm axles (or QRs). The Genus AE65 is a 65mm deep carbon wheelset that sells for $1600/1400€ with a claimed weight of 1670g for the pair.

The Genus CL45 pair also sells for $1600/1400€ with a weight of 1540g for its 46mm deep profile (above, back). The 30mm deep Genus SL30 set is the lightest, including ceramic bearings for $1600/1400€ with a weight of 1460g.

All carbon Ere Genus TLR wheels come with tubeless tape installed, matching Ere Genus 26mm tires of the same name/discipline, inner tubes, a double wheelbag & spare spokes.

Additionally a Omnia CL45 features a 19mm internal, 45mm deep alloy rim for a more affordable $1200/1000€ tubeless-ready wheel build at 1630g for the set (without tires & wheelbags).

Explorator all-rounder or gravel wheals will also be available in two 19mm internal, tubeless-ready variants – the 45mm deep Explorator GC45 (1890g) & 30mm deep Explorator GC30 (1695g). Both feature more tapered sides because of their alloy extrusion, 12mm axles, and come just with conventional clincher rim tape.

All new Ere wheels are rated for a 120kg/265lb bike/rider combo and get a standard EU 2-year warranty, which extends to 3-years if you register them online. Ere has a 3-year crash replacement policy offering 50% wheel replacement in year one, 30% for the second year, and 15% for the third year. A ceramic bearing upgrade is also available for all hubs/

Beyond saddles, wheels & their wide range of road-oriented tires, Ere will also add a number of different bartape & bar plug options in their same Genus, Omnia & Explorator road & gravel families. Ere promises that they aren’t an afterthought, but real improvement to everyday comfort, usability, durability & the ability to keep clean vs. most of what you find on the market.

For now Ere products are still available through their regular international distribution network. Their new products are set to hit the market in the coming weeks, and we’ll have more detailed information on them soon. Until then you can wait with the teaser of their new website.
